Akamai Technologies Soars, Scholastic Shares Slide in Premarket Trading

Akamai Technologies, a prominent player in cloud computing, experienced a significant premarket rise of over 21% following the announcement of a seven-year power contract and an $11.6 billion agreement with Anthropic on Thursday. Additionally, Akamai issued a warrant allowing Anthropic to purchase up to approximately 5% of its shares at an exercise price of $111.33 each.
In contrast, shares of Scholastic, the publisher known for children’s books, fell more than 10% after the company reported a loss in its fiscal first quarter. Scholastic disclosed an adjusted loss of $3.63 per share, a decline compared to the $2.52 per share loss from the same period last year. The company’s revenue of $216.8 million marked a 4% decrease year-over-year.
Synopsys, a software company, gained over 3% in premarket trading following an upgrade from HSBC, which changed its rating from hold to buy. Frank Lee from HSBC noted that the company’s new business model positions Synopsys as a “high-growth AI beneficiary.”
Shares of Nike dipped nearly 2% after Bank of America downgraded the athletic apparel retailer from neutral to underperform, anticipating a decline in sales from the second quarter through the remainder of fiscal 2027.
Costco Wholesale saw a slight decline in its shares despite reporting better-than-expected fiscal fourth-quarter results. The company earned an adjusted $6.60 per share on a revenue of $95.72 billion, surpassing analyst expectations of a profit of $6.53 per share and revenue of $94.86 billion.
