Beyond Good & Evil 2 Still Under Development, Confirms Ubisoft Developer
- Nearly 18 years after its announcement, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is reportedly still in development.
- Lead writer Rik Godwin has confirmed his involvement in a support role, indicating ongoing progress.
- The game has faced multiple delays and uncertainties since its original reveal in 2008.
Nearly 18 years after its initial announcement, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is reportedly still alive, according to a developer from Ubisoft Bordeaux who claims to have been working on the game for months. The game was originally unveiled in 2008 and has experienced significant delays and development struggles since then.
Recent signs of life emerged last year with a job posting related to the game, and lead writer and associate narrative director Rik Godwin confirmed the project is still in development, provided he has Ubisoft’s permission to share this information. Godwin mentioned in a social media post, “Odd sort of non-announcement but for the past few months I’ve been working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 in a support/consultant role. I am allowed to say this, I checked.”
The status of Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains unclear, with the question of its existence causing confusion among fans for years. Notable developments since its unveiling include a cinematic trailer showcased at E3 in 2018 and a controversial partnership with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s HitRecord, allowing artists to submit work for the game. In 2022, the title became recognized as the longest game in development, surpassing Duke Nukem Forever in the Guinness Book of Records.
In January 2023, Ubisoft reiterated the game’s existence, and gameplay footage surfaced that September through an animator’s portfolio. Since then, the company has intermittently restated that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development; however, substantial evidence remains scarce, with Godwin’s post being the most recent reassurance.
The community continues to hold onto hope for a release, recalling the anticipation generated by its cinematic trailer and the nostalgia tied to its long wait. As expectations linger, fans remain curious about the future of the iconic title.
