Modern Warfare 4 Introduces Character Skin Toggle for Warzone
- Modern Warfare 4 to launch character skin toggle in Warzone during the first season.
- The filter allows players to see only Modern Warfare 4 character skins in matches.
- Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to introduce a new feature for Warzone later this year, allowing players to disable character skins from other Call of Duty titles in the free-to-play mode. This feature will launch with the game’s first season.
Activating the filter will restrict players to viewing only the character skins native to Modern Warfare 4. Developer Infinity Ward emphasizes its commitment to an “authentic” and “grounded” aesthetic for the game’s operator skins and collaborations. As stated in an official blog post, “This all-new filter has been built specifically for the Modern Warfare 4 chapter, giving players more control over the operator skins they see in Call of Duty: Warzone only.”
Since Warzone’s debut in 2020, it has gathered an extensive collection of character and weapon skins from various Call of Duty games, resulting in a diverse yet often mismatched visual style. Players have expressed a desire for a toggle to avoid seeing skins from previous titles that clash with the current aesthetic.
The addition of the skin toggle addresses a long-standing request, allowing players to customize their gameplay experience. The filter applies only to the individual who turns it on, meaning other players in the match will continue to see the selected skins. As a result, the visibility of these skins remains a crucial aspect, given the intention behind their design.
While the filter offers a welcomed improvement, it does not prevent Infinity Ward or Activision from introducing future skins that players might find inappropriate or out-of-place. It’s important to note that this toggle does not intelligently assess which skins are suitable; it merely disables those from other games.
Currently, the skin toggle is exclusive to Warzone. However, it is anticipated that players may request similar features for Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer when new skins are released post-launch. Modern Warfare 4 is officially scheduled for release on October 23, 2023, across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2.
