⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • James Bond game 007 First Light received a free DLC update today, enhancing gameplay features.
  • New additions include a New Game Plus mode, a challenging 00 difficulty, and improved weapon handling.
  • Players can now engage in redesigned TacSim missions and utilize a new photo mode for in-game capture opportunities.

Today, the popular James Bond game, 007 First Light, launched its free DLC titled Extended Operations. This update introduces several requested features, including a New Game Plus mode, a new 00 difficulty setting, and a comprehensive photo mode, along with additional TacSim mission challenges and gameplay adjustments.

Enhanced gameplay mechanics include improved weapon handling “fidelity,” allowing for more precise control over Bond’s movements and weapon interactions. Now, enemies can throw players off ledges, an action that was previously exclusive to the player character.

Unlocking the New Game Plus mode requires players to complete the campaign on any difficulty. Upon unlocking it, players will also gain access to the game’s new 00 difficulty, which the press release describes as “considerably harder.” This mode intensifies combat, stealth, and social encounters by altering enemy behaviors and making combat less forgiving, introducing two-hit kills and stricter timing for parries and sidesteps.

The TacSim missions make a notable return, featuring a revamped Aston Martin Valhalla. Players will race through the Slovakian mountainside at different times of the day while completing timed challenges. The vehicle is equipped with rocket-launchers to assist in these missions.

Another TacSim mission takes players back to the luxurious Pearl resort in Vietnam, where Bond is tasked with retrieving classified documents from a safe before making an escape to a rooftop. The mission area has been redesigned to enhance stealth opportunities, as players navigate the villa’s interior.

The introduction of a photo mode enables players to pause the game at any moment, even during combat, and adjust character poses alongside various visual settings like lighting and filters for in-game photography.

In a trailer alongside the announcement, game director Dominic Vega expressed gratitude to players, stating, “This DLC is brought to you as a thank you to all the players who’ve been with us since the game’s release. So start the game and go earn the number.”

Since its release in May, 007 First Light has been well-received, securing its place as one of the top James Bond games in recent years. According to Eurogamer’s review, it offers engaging fistfights and a good mix of charm despite being less cerebral than other titles in the genre. The game has achieved over 4 million sales within three months, leading to speculation about a possible sequel from IO Interactive. However, the studio also faced challenges, as Xbox withdrew from a publishing deal for its online role-playing game, Project Fantasy, around the same time.
