Aion 2 Set for Global Release Amidst Early Access Success
- Aion 2’s global release is imminent, following earlier launches in Korea and Taiwan.
- The game topped Steam’s Top Sellers list and sold more than several recent AAA titles through its founders’ packs.
- As of now, Aion 2 ranks ninth on Steam’s Most Played chart, with further growth expected post-launch.
Aion 2’s highly anticipated global launch is just days away, following its initial release in Korea and Taiwan approximately a year ago. The game has already gained significant traction, currently ranking highly on Steam’s most played games chart.
In a remarkable feat, Aion 2 has reached the top of Steam’s Top Sellers list. Although it is predominantly free-to-play, players currently need to purchase early access via one of several founders’ packs, with the lowest pack priced at £18.49, which includes various in-game cosmetics and consumables.
These founders’ packs have led to Aion 2 outselling other major recent releases, generating more revenue this week than titles such as EA FC 27, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, and Gears of War: E-Day.
Regarding player engagement, the Steam Most Played figures indicate that Aion 2 currently holds the ninth position, outperforming games like Delta Force and Delta Lock, but trailing behind popular titles such as PUBG, Apex Legends, and Wardogs.
This achievement is notable, especially as the game’s position is expected to improve significantly once it becomes open to non-founders and transitions to a fully free-to-play model in the coming days.
Initial impressions of Aion 2 suggest positive feedback, particularly regarding its character creation and gameplay mechanics. Players can explore the game world, collect pets from defeated adversaries, and develop their characters through various activities.
Characterized as a standard MMORPG with unique elements, Aion 2’s combat system balances traditional tab-target mechanics with a more action-oriented approach reminiscent of Black Desert Online. It features numerous collectibles, over 1,100 achievements, and a blend of PvP and PvE events.
Eurogamer initially reviewed the original Aion in 2009, with notable praise for its innovative features. As Aion 2 aims to continue this legacy, it presents an opportunity for both new and returning players to engage with the franchise.
