As detailed by the studio, this update is “not a full remaster or remake,” but it preserves the original Metro Redux experience and aesthetic while introducing multiple enhancements. These include 4K textures across all platforms, improved animations, higher-quality audio, and increased environmental detail, along with numerous community-requested bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.

For PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S, the update offers native support and platform-specific features. These include PSSR on PS5 Pro, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing on Xbox Series X, and broader spatial audio support across Xbox platforms.

Console players will be able to enjoy native 4K at 60fps or upscaled 4K at 120fps on compatible displays, enhanced lighting, shadows, and particle effects, along with features like DualSense Adaptive Triggers and Xbox Impulse Triggers, and power-saving modes on both platforms.

Xbox users will also benefit from Play Anywhere and handheld support. In addition, the update will introduce DLSS support for PC users, who will also receive enhanced spatial audio and various quality-of-life fixes.

While full patch notes will be available at launch, the update will be free for all current owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux on PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows Store, and GOG, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

This update also paves the way for Metro 2039, which is scheduled for release on February 4. Eurogamer recently reported on their hands-on experience with Metro 2039, highlighting its compelling graphics and gameplay, and expressing admiration for the development team’s achievements.

“Making games is hard under normal circumstances, but having played about two hours of Metro 2039 I’m floored by what the team has managed here,” remarked Eurogamer’s reviewer. The game is described as both a solid shooter with impressive graphics and a narrative drawing inspiration from the most challenging real-world events.
