- A Netflix membership is required to download and play the game.
- The game features customized touch controls and new gameplay elements.
Capcom’s popular action RPG, Monster Hunter Rise, has launched on mobile platforms Android and iOS via Netflix, as indicated by recent store listings. Initially released on Nintendo Switch in 2021, the game later made its way to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation systems. The mobile version appears to have undergone a ‘soft launch’ today across both app stores.
To access Monster Hunter Rise, players will need a Netflix membership, as specified on the game’s listing. Notably, the game will be downloaded and run natively on mobile devices, marking a significant move for Capcom as they continue to adapt their flagship series to different platforms.
The mobile version of Monster Hunter Rise includes several unique features compared to its console counterparts:
- Challenge and Event Quests that were previously available only as paid or temporary content can now be earned through gameplay progression.
- A new Recovery Button will help players automatically select the most effective items during combat, enhancing gameplay focus.
- Touch controls have been redesigned for intuitive use on smartphones and tablets, accommodating each weapon’s unique mechanics and optimizing visuals for various screen sizes.
As the game prepares for its full release, the timing of this mobile launch is noteworthy, particularly with Tencent’s Monster Hunter Outlanders set to debut on October 29, 2023. This new title promises a fully featured open-world survival experience inclusive of gacha mechanics, creating an interesting competitive landscape for the franchise.
Recently, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rise has sold over 20 million units worldwide. This success might have influenced the decision to include the game in Netflix’s gaming catalogue. The company’s previous title Monster Hunter World is estimated to have sold approximately 22.4 million units, while the latest installment, Monster Hunter Wilds, stands at about 11 million. Capcom anticipates that the forthcoming Switch 2 version and Ascendance DLC will help bolster these numbers further.
