Liquid Swords, the Swedish studio behind the action game Samson, has reportedly filed for bankruptcy. According to reports, this situation affects nearly 30 employees, who are expected to receive compensation from the state. The bankruptcy trustee is currently searching for a potential buyer.
Initial reports indicate that Liquid Swords has not compensated its developers for several months. However, due to the bankruptcy order, believed to have been issued on 12th October, unpaid salaries will be addressed under Sweden’s state wage guarantee.
Christofer Sundberg, who co-founded Avalanche Studios, established Liquid Swords in 2020. The studio’s first title, Samson: A Tyndalston Story, was released on PC on 8th April 2023, followed by launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 21st September. The studio faced challenges in securing a publisher, and the game has received mixed reviews, with players reporting various technical and performance issues.
Liquid Swords is among several companies in the gaming industry experiencing job losses recently. On 22nd September, Xbox announced 268 additional layoffs and repositioned Rare and World’s Edge under Activision’s purview for future Halo game development. Additionally, Supermassive Games reportedly reduced its workforce by over 70 employees earlier this month. On the same day, Xbox disclosed it was beginning consultations for a possible closure of Ninja Theory following the collapse of two agreement attempts for the studio.
