Football Manager 27 Offers Five-Day Free Play for PC and Mac
- Football Manager 27 will be available for free for five days starting from 29th October.
- The free period ends on 3rd November, coinciding with the opening of pre-orders.
- The full game launches on 10th November, with player saves carrying over across all periods.
Football Manager 27 will be made available for free on PC and Mac for five days, starting on 29th October at 6pm GMT. This initiative marks a first for the series, and is reportedly an “industry first” for titles of its kind.
The free play period will conclude on 3rd November, which is when the regular paid ‘launch preview’ begins for those who pre-order the game ahead of its full release on 10th November.
A statement from the studio notes, “Making an annual title free to play with all game modes available is believed to be an industry first and is a move that continues Sports Interactive’s efforts to support its community of players.”
Players will also benefit from a 10 percent discount on pre-orders during the free period, which will grant access to the launch preview. Importantly, player saves will be transferable into the full game, a feature that extends to those using Xbox Game Pass as well.
This announcement comes during a notably quiet pre-launch phase for developer Sports Interactive, following a challenging year for Football Manager 26. Despite maintaining consistent player numbers, the previous title holds a ‘Mostly Negative’ rating on Steam nearly a year post-launch.
FM26 was the first title released in two years, as Sports Interactive had to cancel FM25 to shift the game to the Unity engine. This transition introduced new systems deemed impossible in past iterations, particularly the advanced management of formations and tactics. However, the game was also criticized for the removal of several classic features and an unwieldy user interface.
As the franchise looks ahead, FM27 is set to introduce “an improved interface with more intuitive navigation, creating a more immersive experience,” along with new features such as Tactical Tweaks, which enhance the traditional touchline shouts system. The success of these innovations will likely influence the community’s trust in Sports Interactive following recent challenges, making the upcoming free play period a significant move for the studio.
