- This classic map first appeared in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007.
- Season One of Modern Warfare 4 begins on 6th November, two weeks after the game’s launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to receive a small update facilitating the inclusion of the renowned Shipment map from Infinity Ward. This update comes merely four days after the game launched on 23rd October, marking an unusually prompt addition.
Shipment, regarded as the quintessential ‘small map’ of the Call of Duty series, was first introduced in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007. The map is designed for rapid-paced combat, unmatched by any other multiplayer arena. While other maps resembling Shipment have emerged over the years, notably Treyarch’s Nuketown from the Black Ops games, none have paralleled the sheer chaos that Shipment delivers.
Prior to the game’s launch, the arrival of Shipment was hinted at by the developers in a blog post, where they announced its release date as 27th October. The timing of this map’s addition, so close to the game’s debut, is particularly noteworthy.
Usually, Shipment becomes available a couple of weeks after a game’s release, typically during its initial live service season. The map has been featured in previous titles including Modern Warfare 2019, Modern Warfare 2 (2022), and Modern Warfare 3 (2023), while similar maps have appeared in other Call of Duty entries, such as COD: WW2’s Shipment 1944.
There is a common belief that Shipment is introduced as player engagement begins to wane. Given its status as one of the series’ most beloved maps, many players return solely to experience this iconic layout. Shipment is particularly favored for leveling up weapons and player ranks due to its higher kill counts compared to larger maps.
Shipment is typically released with a dedicated 24/7 playlist, allowing players to engage exclusively with the map. While Infinity Ward has not confirmed the presence of this playlist for the new iteration, its likelihood remains high.
The latest iteration of Shipment retains the classic map layout but introduces a fresh environment inspired by locations within Modern Warfare 4. This version showcases an urban landscape with muted colors reminiscent of the original, featuring Soviet-era concrete structures in the background. Combat unfolds in a bustling shipping yard filled with shipping containers, which aligns with the map’s name.
Additionally, Modern Warfare 4 is preparing for its first season, with Season One set to commence on 6th November—just two weeks following the game’s launch. Notably, it is intriguing that Infinity Ward opted not to wait for the season’s start to release the Shipment map.
