Ubisoft Shocking Revelation: What’s Behind the Silence on New Assassin’s Creed Remakes?

Date:

Ubisoft Confirms No Current Remakes in the Assassin’s Creed Series

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Ubisoft states there are no Assassin’s Creed remakes in development.
  • CEO Yves Guillemot had previously mentioned multiple remakes were underway.
  • Future projects include ‘Codename Invictus’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed Hexe’.

Ubisoft released a statement about the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, revealing that there are currently no remakes of past games in the series under development. “One thing we want to be transparent about today is that we currently have no other Assassin’s Creed remake actively in development,” the company stated. They emphasized that their teams are focusing on new titles and projects with unannounced settings and stories.

This announcement surprised some fans, especially since Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot had previously indicated in 2024 that multiple remakes were in active development. Guillemot had stated, “Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernise them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.”

The decision to move away from remakes is notable, particularly considering the success of “Black Flag Resynced,” which sold over 3.5 million copies shortly after its release. Despite the current lack of active remake projects, Ubisoft appears open to revisiting classic titles in the future. “Like many of you, we love the idea of revisiting our classic titles, and we’ll keep exploring opportunities to bring older titles back,” their statement continued, reinforcing their commitment to the franchise’s heritage.

Among the upcoming projects is ‘Codename Invictus,’ described as a “PvP multiplayer Assassin’s Creed experience” led by a team of For Honor veterans at Ubisoft Montreal. Details about this title remain limited at this time.

Additionally, Ubisoft is developing “Assassin’s Creed Hexe,” which is characterized as a darker, narrative-driven experience set in a 16th-century European setting. Although it’s rumored to be aiming for a 2026 release, Ubisoft’s head of franchise, Jean Guesdon, mentioned earlier this year that they are “taking the time to deliver on its ambitious vision, which means we’ll be quiet for a little longer.” Reports suggest that Hexe is still at least a year away from launch.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise continues to be a cornerstone of Ubisoft’s portfolio, despite recent organizational changes. Last year marked the departure of franchise leader Marc-Alexis Côté, coinciding with a reorganization and the establishment of Vantage Studios, created in collaboration with Tencent to manage the development of Ubisoft’s major franchises, including Assassin’s Creed.
