COD: Modern Warfare 4’s Latest DMZ Patch Stealthily Redefines UAV Towers—What You Need to Know!

Date:

Significant Changes to UAV Towers in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ Mode

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Infinity Ward has randomized UAV Tower spawns and reduced their spawn rate by 40%.
  • The patch prevents multiple UAV Towers from appearing in the same area, excluding Deadtown.
  • Updates also increase the Sedative Inhaler duration to 120 seconds.

The latest patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has implemented critical balance changes to the extraction mode, DMZ, particularly affecting UAV Towers. Previously, these towers were guaranteed to spawn at every Point of Interest (POI) on the map; however, their spawn logic has now been randomized.

Alongside this change, Infinity Ward has reduced the overall spawn rate of UAV Towers by 40%, decreasing their prevalence across various map regions. According to the patch notes, there is now a restriction preventing multiple UAV Towers from spawning in the same area, with the only exception being the Deadtown location, which requires numerous towers for DMZ Order progression.

This update significantly alters one of the main strategies used by PvP-focused players, who have commonly relied on activating UAV Towers to track enemy movements. Players frequently spawn in and rush to activate as many towers as possible, even if they do not plan on engaging in direct combat.

Additionally, some UAV Towers are positioned above extraction zones, enabling players to set traps for opponents attempting to extract. A certain character trait prevents UAV Towers from expiring, allowing the scans to remain active throughout an entire match.

While Infinity Ward has yet to make official comments on this trait, the developer has confirmed plans to adjust it, ensuring that the Sedative Inhaler—used to conceal players from UAVs—will be effective against towers with this trait upgrade. However, these changes are not expected to be implemented until later in Season 1.

Furthermore, the recent update has enhanced the Sedative Inhaler’s effectiveness by extending its active duration to 120 seconds, doubling the previous duration of 60 seconds. This change aims to facilitate better stealth gameplay as more significant updates are rolled out.

DMZ remains one of the most discussed modes in Modern Warfare 4, with players recently identifying a potential separate matchmaking pool for Story Missions, which may limit solo sessions to no other players, although full details are still emerging.
