Xbox and Bethesda Unveil The Elder Scrolls 6: “Sentinel”
- The Elder Scrolls 6 is officially titled Sentinel, revealed on November 3, 2026.
- The trailer features new graphics and a quote from Yazar, Moth Priest of Hammerfell.
- Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed she played the game in August during a visit to Bethesda.
On November 3, 2026, Xbox and Bethesda officially announced The Elder Scrolls 6 alongside its subtitle, Sentinel. This revelation coincides closely with the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and comes eight years, four months, and 23 days after the initial title card for The Elder Scrolls 6 was revealed, equating to over 100 months or 3,067 days.
The debut trailer showcased a glimpse of new gameplay, featuring intricate sand physics before revealing the title, Sentinel. A poetic quote from Yazar, the Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, was included in the video: “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.”
A promotional message in the video acknowledged the community, stating, “For 40 years, we’ve explored new worlds, told unforgettable stories, and gone on incredible adventures together. From everyone at Bethesda Game Studios, thank you for joining us along this journey, for making these worlds your own, and for inspiring us to keep creating. Here’s to 40 more.”
This announcement followed a recent report predicting a significant unveiling of this highly-anticipated fantasy RPG in November and the game’s name. The report indicated that the gameplay would take place in the Tamriel region of Hammerfell and delve into the “history of the Elder Scrolls” while exploring the secrets of ancient artifacts, which the trailer appears to confirm.
Asha Sharma, CEO of Xbox, mentioned that she played Sentinel in August during a visit to Bethesda amidst a union protest outside. This unveiling comes just six months after Bethesda implemented job cuts as part of a broader “reset” strategy following Microsoft’s organizational changes.
The lengthy wait for gameplay reveals was touched on by Skyrim’s lead designer, Bruce Nesmith, who noted that the studio felt pressured to announce the game due to community demand. He quoted Todd Howard, stating, “Those companies that start touting their games years ahead of time, actually, you know, they screw themselves. The best time to start talking about it is six months before release.” This approach mirrors the announcement strategy used for Fallout 4.
Speculation arises regarding the timeline for more Sentinel footage, with expectations that additional content could be presented during The Game Awards 2026 scheduled for December 10.
