World of Warcraft: Forever Launches with Unprecedented Smoothness
- World of Warcraft: Forever launched last night with minimal issues.
- European players experienced short login queues and little lag.
- Developers acknowledged the smooth launch and addressed minor gameplay issues.
World of Warcraft: Forever was released last night, exceeding expectations with a largely trouble-free launch. Players accustomed to long queues, disconnects, and server lag were pleasantly surprised as issues were minimal.
Reporting from Eurogamer indicates that European players who logged in between 11 PM and 3:50 AM experienced short and consistently moving login queues. While some early entrants faced unresponsive server selection boxes, rejoining the queue quickly resolved the issue.
Once logged in, many players reported impressive server stability with minimal lag and no significant random disconnects. One playtester noted they did not experience any disconnections, marking a personal record for them.
This success was acknowledged by executive producer Holly Longdale, who commented on X, stating, “At the risk of jinxing things, so far so goodish which is crazy by itself.” Longdale credited the team for their extensive preparations following the chaotic beta phase.
Senior game designer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield addressed minor issues that arose, including a zone population imbalance due to megaservers splitting players into different shards, which occasionally resulted in underpopulated areas. Additionally, issues with boats and zeppelins were noted; temporary portals were implemented as a solution.
Greenfield thanked the gaming community for a “great, super smooth launch,” humorously stating, “I’m going to head home and ‘go to sleep’ now. Yep, sleeping. Totally not playing WoW Forever until 3 AM. Nope.”
Player reactions have highlighted the unexpectedly seamless launch, with one Reddit user posting, “I can’t believe how smooth this launch is,” emphasizing their initial doubts about being able to play due to anticipated login issues.
Another user expressed regret over not taking time off from work for the launch, labelled “Never take a day off for launch, they said.” Responses from the community included astonishment at the unforeseen smoothness of the launch.
As the mammoth release follows a record-breaking beta, during which many players returned to the game, preliminary impressions suggest that the magic of the beloved MMO has been effectively recaptured.
