Dion Reveals Diagnosis of Rare Neurological Disorder, Cancels Tour Plans

Celine Dion has opened up about her recent diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome, a “very rare” progressive neurological disorder that has significantly impacted her health and ability to continue her career. In an emotional Instagram video, Dion expressed her long struggles with health issues and the difficulty she faced in discussing them publicly.

“As you know, I’ve always been an open book,” Dion stated. “I wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I’m ready now. I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.”

Dion described the debilitating nature of her condition, saying it has caused muscle spasms that affect “every aspect” of her daily life, at times making it challenging for her to walk. She announced that returning to the stage for her tours, which she had been looking forward to, is now impossible due to her health complications.

“I’m working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again,” Dion added. “But I have to admit, it’s been a struggle.”

According to the National Institutes of Health, common symptoms of stiff-person syndrome include stiff muscles in the torso, arms, and legs, as well as heightened sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional stress, all of which can trigger muscle spasms.
