Actress Madison Bailey Struggles in Underwater Scene, Mistaken for Committed Acting

During the filming of an underwater scene for the popular Netflix series “Outer Banks,” actress Madison Bailey was in serious distress, struggling to swim closer to a boat. However, the production team and onlookers mistakenly believed that she and her co-star, Chase Stokes, were simply demonstrating intense commitment to their roles.

Stokes recounted the moment, stating, “Everyone thought it was like, ‘Oh, wow, they’re in the scene. This is great.’ I was like, ‘No, she’s drowning. That’s not acting!’” Bailey humorously added that the crew commended her performance, with comments like, “Wow, she’s really good!” while she was genuinely fighting to stay afloat.

At 27, Bailey acknowledged that the underwater scenes posed significant challenges for her, labeling them as the “hardest” part of filming. In contrast, she noted that Stokes, whom she affectionately referred to as a “fish,” found the experience much easier. “You actually make a bad day worse,” Bailey joked to Stokes. “When I’m struggling to barely swim, Chase is like [fake swims]. I swear he’s breathing under there just to make me look bad.”
