Hayden Panettiere Reflects on Emotional Struggles After Toxic Relationship
In a recent interview with Us Weekly, actress Hayden Panettiere compared the challenge of removing an abusive person from one’s life to uprooting a deeply entangled weed. “Getting an abusive person out of your life is like trying to rip a weed out that is so entangled into your life,” she stated in May. She described the process, saying, “Every time you pull it out, another weed pops back up and you’re like, I thought I killed this. They always manage to find a way to slither back in, even if you’re an incredibly strong-willed person.”
Panettiere’s remarks echo her previous thoughts regarding her tumultuous relationship with Brian Hickerson. Following his arrest on Valentine’s Day in 2020 in Wyoming, she believed it marked a critical point in their relationship, stating it “helped push me in the right direction.” However, she acknowledged that the journey to fully end the relationship was much more complex and took substantial time. “I still struggled to fully put a kibosh to it for a while,” she explained.
As her film Scream VI premiered in 2023, Panettiere reflected on her emotional state, admitting to The New York Times, “There are feelings there, yes.” She noted that her future actions concerning those feelings were “contingent on him continuing on this road of recovery.” In a recent development, E! News reported that Panettiere traveled with Hickerson from Los Angeles to South Carolina the day prior to her passing.
