Tua Tagovailoa Reflects on Family and Career After Injury-Plagued Season

Following the Miami Dolphins’ decision to pick up his fifth-year option in March 2023, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa shared his thoughts on considering retirement due to the challenges of his injury-marred 2022 season. He acknowledged the multitude of reasons to stay home, particularly his family.

On July 17, 2023, Tagovailoa offered a glimpse into his personal life by posting a heartfelt message to celebrate his one-year anniversary with Annah Tagovailoa. “Never one to put my private life out there. But this one deserved a post,” he wrote. “Happy 1 Year Anniversary to my beautiful wife. I love you.”

In November 2022, Tagovailoa expressed gratitude for his wife and the couple’s new baby, son Ace, who was born in August 2022. Ace made his public debut at the Tua Foundation luau benefit the following April. He remarked on the transformative nature of fatherhood, stating, “It’s very unique how having a child impacts how you see things differently in life. It’s like nothing that I’ve experienced.” He noted the absence of a universal playbook for parenting, adding, “There’s no playbook for this because everyone’s experience is different, whether you’re having a boy first or a girl.”

Tagovailoa expressed relief about having a son first, saying, “I thank my heavenly Father up above that I got a boy first. Oh, man. I don’t know what I’d do if I had a girl. It’d be a little harder, I think, because I wouldn’t know what to do necessarily.”

In 2026, Tagovailoa signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Since then, he and Annah have welcomed a daughter, Maisey, expanding their family.
