Patrick Clancy Testifies on Lindsay Clancy’s Mental Health Before Children’s Deaths

Plymouth Superior Court is currently hearing the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, a former nurse charged with killing her three children. During the trial, which began on July 27, Lindsay’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, provided testimony detailing her ongoing struggles with mental health.

Lindsay Clancy, 35, has acknowledged the deaths of her daughter Cora, age 5, and sons Dawson, age 3, and Callan, age 8 months. However, she has pleaded not guilty to murder, with her defense attributing her actions to postpartum psychosis.

Testifying in court, Patrick Clancy revealed that Lindsay faced significant mental health challenges following the birth of their son Callan in May 2023. He noted that she had sought treatment for her mental health issues after Dawson was born in 2019, but her care was short-lived. He described a “big spiral” in her mental health that began in December 2023, coinciding with her introduction to a new medication, among several prescriptions she had received since September.

Patrick testified that Lindsay confided in him about having “intrusive thoughts” relating to harming both herself and their children. Despite these troubling thoughts, he expressed that he was not concerned for the children’s safety at that time, as she appeared to lack any intention of actually causing them harm.

On December 31, 2023, Patrick stated that Lindsay went to the emergency room at Massachusetts General Hospital due to her persistent suicidal thoughts. She was subsequently admitted to a psychiatric facility, and upon her discharge on January 5, she seemed to have significantly improved.
