Manga Mavericks Books Licenses Zenzo’s ‘Oni King’ and ‘Royd’ Alongside Ippan Nakamura’s ‘Town Walking With Ghost Dog’
Manga Mavericks Books announced during its panel at Otakon that it has officially licensed three new titles for English publication: Zenzo’s one-shot manga Oni King and fantasy tale Royd, both slated for a digital release in December 2026 with physical editions to follow, alongside Ippan Nakamura’s acclaimed travelogue Town Walking With Ghost Dog, arriving in print and digital formats on May 25, 2027.
From Dark Vengeance to Soulful Japanese Travelogues
The upcoming slate spans grim fantasy and immersive slice-of-life storytelling. Oni King follows Oniou, a demon child who trades his life force to a cursed club to avenge his mother’s kidnapping by the monster Kurokazemaru. Meanwhile, Zenzo’s Royd explores the high cost of magic after a prodigious young mage gives his heart of kindness to a sentient golem to appease his divine mentor. Shifting from fantasy to reality, Ippan Nakamura’s Town Walking With Ghost Dog blends guidebook, memoir, and manga elements to document the creator’s pandemic-era walks through Tokyo’s back alleys, trains, and trails alongside a ghostly canine companion.
