Shohei Manabe’s Gritty Crime Manga Kujō no Taizai Gets Live-Action Film Adaptation for January 2027
Fans of dark, morally ambiguous crime dramas are in for a major treat as TOHO Films officially announced that Shohei Manabe’s hit manga Kujō no Taizai (Sins of Kujo) is leaping to the silver screen with a live-action film slated to premiere on January 8, 2027. The project is bringing back the entire powerhouse creative team and lead cast from the previous television series adaptation, which originally premiered its live-action run on Netflix.
The Guardian of Darkness Returns to the Big Screen
Yuuya Yagira is set to reprise his riveting role as Taiza Kujō—a cunning lawyer operating in the chaotic Reiwa era who specializes in defending society’s absolute worst, from thugs to ex-convicts. He will be joined once again by Hokuto Matsumura as elite lawyer Shinji Karasuma, whose rigid ethical boundaries are constantly challenged by Kujo’s unconventional, morally grey methods. Behind the camera, director Nobuhiro Doi and screenwriter Nonji Nemoto are returning to helm the new feature, continuing the gritty exploration of law, justice, and the dark underbelly of human morality.
