We Are Aliens Anime Film Unveils Full Trailer, Theme Song, and September Release Date
The official website for Kōhei Kadowaki and NOTHING NEW’s upcoming anime film We Are Aliens (Ware Ware wa Uchūjin) has dropped its full trailer and a striking new visual, locking in a Japanese theatrical release for September 25. The freshly released trailer also previews the film’s theme song, “Sasakure” (Split), performed by adieu, alongside major voice cast announcements.
All-Star Creative Team and Festival-Bound Journey
Directed, written, and storyboarded by Kōhei Kadowaki—known for his work on the second season’s ending sequence of BEASTARS and YOASOBI music videos—the film is produced by NOTHING NEW in collaboration with French studio Miyu Productions, featuring a score by producer Yaffle. The story follows Tsubasa and Gyōtarō, two childhood friends torn apart by jealousy and misunderstandings who must confront their past as young adults. The film stars Ryōta Bandō and Amane Okayama as the older versions of the protagonists, alongside child actors Yūto Maki and Tasuku Nakagome. Following international screenings at Cannes and Annecy, the crowdfunded feature is expanding its global footprint with upcoming appearances at the Ottawa, Melbourne, and New Zealand international film festivals, alongside international distribution across Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
