Former Eagles Running Back Acknowledges Responsibility Amid Legal Challenges

Judge Scott has indicated that the former Philadelphia Eagles running back, who pled guilty to federal charges in September 2024 and state charges in December 2025, is not seen as a threat to the community. Despite acknowledging a “poor judgment call,” the player has accepted responsibility for his actions.

The 33-year-old athlete was already eligible for parole concerning his federal sentence; however, his detention is tied to his possession of an AR-15, which was illegal in New Jersey at the time of his arrest in August 2023, as stated by his attorney Yaron Helmer.

Helmer emphasized the personal stakes involved, arguing, “This is not just a matter of legal semantics. It’s about whether his daughter will hold her dad again,” noting that the player’s daughter, Mila, is currently receiving end-of-life care.

New Jersey had previously prohibited assault weapon ownership, but a ruling from the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in July declared that the ban was unconstitutional. This outcome may provide the legal grounds for the player to contest his guilty plea.
