Memory chip stocks experienced a downturn following a negative session in South Korea. This decline is attributed to increasing concerns over the valuation of memory stocks, especially after China’s CXMT announced its plans to introduce a new, more powerful chip by the end of 2026. U.S.-listed shares of SK Hynix, Western Digital, and Seagate each dropped over 5%, while Micron and Sandisk fell by 3.7% and 4.6%, respectively.
JPMorgan Chase shares climbed nearly 1% after the bank adjusted its net interest income outlook for the year. However, these gains were tempered as the firm reported third-quarter earnings that fell short of analyst predictions.
Wells Fargo shares fell by 1.1%, reflecting mixed results for the third quarter. The bank reported earnings per share of $1.87, slightly surpassing the LSEG estimate of $1.85, but its revenue of $21.87 billion was below the forecast of $22.3 billion.
Conversely, Goldman Sachs saw its shares rise by 2.8% after announcing third-quarter revenue of $18.68 billion, which exceeded the LSEG estimate of $16.71 billion.
Johnson & Johnson released strong third-quarter results, earning an adjusted $2.59 per share on revenue of $25.4 billion. Analysts had anticipated earnings of $2.54 per share on revenue of $25.28 billion, yet the stock declined over 2% afterwards.
Domino’s Pizza shares dipped nearly 3% after the pizza chain’s third-quarter results were underwhelming for investors. Despite exceeding expectations in earnings per share and revenue, U.S. same-store sales rose only 0.3%, which aligned with a FactSet consensus.
Syndax Pharmaceuticals experienced a significant loss, with shares tumbling 14% after announcing that axatilimab did not achieve its primary endpoint in a Phase 2 trial focused on treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Nick Botwood, head of research & development at Syndax, expressed disappointment in the outcome, citing promising scientific rationale in the condition.
Six Flags stock decreased by 7% following a tragic incident at one of its roller coasters in Georgia, where a man died and others sustained injuries, as reported by Cobb County police.
In contrast, UnitedHealth shares rose by 2% on robust third-quarter results that surpassed analyst expectations. The company posted an adjusted profit of $4.69 per share on revenue of $112.69 billion, while analysts had estimated a profit of $4.14 per share with revenue of $111.40 billion, as per LSEG data.
