Market Highlights: SpaceX and Delta Air Lines Lead Premarket Moves

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • SpaceX shares rose 4% following a spectrum portfolio agreement with Grain Management.
  • Delta Air Lines reported a 4% decline in shares after missing third-quarter earnings expectations.
  • Managed care providers experienced volatility; Humana surged 14%, while Alignment Healthcare dropped 23%.

SpaceX saw its shares increase by 4% after Grain Management announced a deal to sell its nationwide 800 megahertz spectrum portfolio to the company. This agreement is anticipated to enhance the capabilities of SpaceX’s Starlink Mobile service.

In contrast, the announcement negatively impacted telecom providers, which experienced declines in premarket trading on Friday. T-Mobile’s shares fell by 7%, AT&T dropped nearly 6%, and Verizon’s shares decreased by over 5%. Conversely, tower operator stocks like American Tower and Crown Castle gained, rising by 6% and nearly 8%, respectively.

Delta Air Lines faced a 4% drop in its stock price after reporting third-quarter earnings that fell short of expectations. The airline posted an adjusted earnings figure of $1.72 per share on revenues of $17.59 billion. Analysts had forecasted earnings of $1.75 per share on revenues of $17.67 billion. Delta cited rising fuel costs as a continued burden on its financial outlook, prompting a revision of its full-year earnings forecast.

On the other hand, stocks related to artificial intelligence were on the rise following a dip on Thursday, where many had reacted to reports of OpenAI’s revenue being significantly lower than previously stated. CoreWeave’s shares increased by 2.5%, while Oracle and Broadcom each saw a rise of 1.5%.

Lumentum’s shares jumped 6% after CEO Michael Hurlston announced that the company’s optical components are sold out through 2029. However, Hurlston also noted that Lumentum may struggle to meet up to 70% of demand for specific products through the upcoming year.

In the managed care sector, insurer stocks fluctuated sharply after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services revealed its 2027 Star Ratings for the Medicare Plan Finder amid this fall’s open enrollment. Humana’s shares surged by 14% following an improvement in its largest Medicare Advantage contract rating, whereas Alignment Healthcare saw its shares plummet by 23%.

Apple’s shares decreased by over 2% after Nikkei Asia reported a reduction in component orders for the iPhone 18 Pro, attributed to weaker-than-expected demand. The report indicated that October production orders for both the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max were cut by 15% from the original plans.

Park Aerospace, a manufacturer of composite materials for the aerospace sector, reported a decline of 2.5% after initially gaining. The company reported earnings of 21 cents per share on revenues of $20.8 million in the second quarter, compared to 12 cents per share and $16.4 million a year earlier.

Meanwhile, Freeport-McMoRan’s shares rose by 2.5% as gold prices showed signs of recovery, marking their first positive week in three. U.S. gold futures for December delivery were up by 1% on Friday.
