Premarket Stock Movements: Darden Restaurants, MGM Resorts, and Everpure Featured

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Darden Restaurants declined 6.6%, despite meeting earnings expectations.
  • MGM Resorts fell over 9% as Barry Diller’s People pulled its acquisition proposal.
  • Everpure surged 6.7% after positive financial guidance for 2028.

In the latest premarket trading, several companies experienced significant stock movements. Darden Restaurants, the parent company of Olive Garden and LongHorn, saw a decline of 6.6%. This drop followed the release of its fiscal first-quarter results, which revealed earnings of $2.05 per share, aligning with analysts’ estimates. However, its revenue of $3.20 billion fell short of the anticipated $3.21 billion, according to analysts surveyed by FactSet. Darden also reaffirmed its full-year guidance.

MGM Resorts International’s shares experienced a fall of more than 9% after Barry Diller’s People withdrew its proposal to acquire the casino operator. Diller expressed disappointment, stating, “We didn’t feel the mix was coming together in the way we had hoped,” but affirmed his continued investment in the company, retaining 66.8 million shares.

BlackBerry’s stock rose by 2% following the announcement of its second-quarter results, which showed adjusted earnings of 7 cents per share, exceeding the 4 cents expected by analysts. The company’s revenue stood at $163.3 million, surpassing the consensus estimate of $142.5 million.

In contrast, Meta’s stock experienced a 2% decline after a nearly 12% rise earlier this week, attributed to optimism regarding its newly unveiled Muse AI agent. CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the company’s $1,299 Meta VR Glasses and its Muse Charm, a handheld device that complements Muse, late on Wednesday.

Knife River’s stock increased by 5% following a report from the Wall Street Journal indicating that activist investor Starboard Value had purchased a substantial equity stake in the construction materials and contracting services firm. Starboard reportedly aims to drive improvements in Knife River’s margins or explore potential sale options.

Everpure, a data management and storage company, surged 6.7% thanks to favorable outcomes from its financial analyst meeting and optimistic preliminary revenue guidance for 2028. Everpure anticipates 2028 revenues between $7 billion and $7.3 billion, exceeding the $6.19 billion forecast by analysts. Moreover, its guidance for non-GAAP operating income also surpassed expectations.

In contrast, shares of gold mining companies declined alongside falling gold futures, which reached a low of 4,285.0, the lowest level since September 16. Kinross Gold saw a nearly 4% loss, while Newmont and Iamgold experienced declines of approximately 1%.
