Mass Effect Items Removed from Battlefield 6 Following BioWare Shutdown
- Upcoming Mass Effect crossover items were removed from Battlefield 6 after EA’s closure of BioWare.
- Players noticed the absence of the items just before N7 Day on November 7, highlighting the cancellation of Mass Effect 5.
- EA announced layoffs and cut BioWare in a strategy to refocus investments amid its recent leveraged buyout.
Following Electronic Arts’ abrupt shutdown of developer BioWare, crossover items themed around Mass Effect have been eliminated from Battlefield 6. When Battlefield 6’s Season Five launched earlier this month, fans noticed a collection of Mass Effect items added to the game’s cosmetic menus, including a Normandy ship charm, futuristic weapons, and N7 tags. However, these items were not available for purchase or unlocking.

With N7 Day approaching on November 7, fans had anticipated that these items would celebrate the franchise’s annual event and possibly unveil news about the next installment, Mass Effect 5. Unfortunately, this expectation has been dashed with BioWare’s closure and the cancellation of the game.
After the shutdown, players quickly noted the absence of the Mass Effect items from Battlefield 6 and shared their findings online. The game’s recent crossover with Dead Space was polarizing among players, who expressed concern over the use of beloved franchises while others languished in uncertainty.
EA’s announcement stated the company was “making deliberate choices to align talent and investment where we see the greatest opportunities for players and long-term growth,” which led to the layoff of 400 workers and the complete closure of BioWare—a significant loss for a long-standing institution in the RPG genre.
A former BioWare developer indicated that Mass Effect 5 would have drawn inspiration from titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Witcher to offer players unprecedented choices. Although a leaked trailer for Mass Effect Universe provides a glimpse into what might have been, the future of the franchise remains unclear.
Recently, EA was taken private by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners, and Silver Lake in a $55 billion leveraged buyout.
