Mintrocket Unveils Free Subnautica 2 DLC for Dave the Diver at Triple-i Showcase

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Mintrocket announces a crossover DLC between Dave the Diver and Subnautica 2, set for release in early 2027.
  • The DLC, developed with Unknown Worlds, introduces the ocean moon of Proteus and is free for players.
  • Subnautica 2 has sold over 5 million copies since its early access launch this year.

At the Triple-i Showcase today, Mintrocket, the studio behind Dave the Diver, revealed a new collaboration that merges the vibrant underwater worlds of Dave the Diver and Subnautica 2. The final DLC for Dave the Diver is slated for release in early 2027.

While both games revolve around deep-sea exploration, they differ significantly in tone. This crossover is considered a more natural fit compared to the previous collaborations of Dave the Diver, which included titles such as Balatro, Yakuza, Godzilla, and Guilty Gear.

The free DLC, developed in partnership with Unknown Worlds, the team behind Subnautica 2, will introduce players to the ocean moon of Proteus, where Dave and Bancho embark on a new adventure after uncovering all sea creatures and sushi recipes in their current dimension.

Players will encounter the iconic Leviathan from Subnautica 2 within this new content, along with new friends and discoveries. Jaeho Hwang, Mintrocket’s studio director, stated, “Both games are set underwater, but Subnautica has such a distinct approach to underwater exploration, so working with the Subnautica 2 team gave us a chance to bring a new wave to Dave the Diver experience.”

Anthony Gallegos, creative director of Subnautica 2, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “It’s clear that we both adore one another’s games a lot, and the expansion is a love letter to both Dave the Diver and the Subnautica universe. People are in for a treat.”

The Subnautica 2 x Dave the Diver crossover DLC can now be wishlisted on Steam. Since launching in early access earlier this year, Subnautica 2 has achieved remarkable success, selling over 5 million copies in under a month. This impressive performance has led publisher Krafton, which faced legal challenges with the studio founders ahead of launch, to categorize it as a “franchise IP.”
