Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Confirms Studio Behind Kingdom Hearts 4

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, has announced that his studio, Creative Studio 1, is also responsible for the development of Kingdom Hearts 4. This revelation came during an interview with Deadline, where he elaborated on Square Enix’s strategic plans for the upcoming year of 2027.
When discussing the company’s roadmap, Hamaguchi emphasized that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Kingdom Hearts 4 are critical to what he refers to as a “big fight back” for Square Enix, quoting company president Takashi Kiryu. “In terms of Square Enix and 2027, our President, Takashi Kiryu, says that next year is the big fight back for us, where everything turns around,” Hamaguchi stated.
He expressed enthusiasm for overseeing both major projects: “And obviously, between Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Kingdom Hearts 4, those are massive titles that are going to push that. And both are being developed in my own studio, Creative Studio 1. So yeah, I’m really pumped up now for that. That’s really all on my watch now, so I’m going to be the guy who’s pushing all that forward.”
It is crucial to note that Hamaguchi is not taking on the creative leadership of Kingdom Hearts 4; Tetsuya Nomura continues to direct the game with Tai Yasue as co-director. Hamaguchi’s remarks pertain to the managerial aspect of the studio rather than the narrative direction of Sora’s journey.
Nomura has also provided an update regarding the newly announced Kingdom Hearts anime series. He confirmed that it is officially in production and that he has been in ongoing discussions with its scenario team and art team, stating, “I cannot say anything more at this moment, but the single piece of key art released serves as a hint. Please let your imagination run wild as you await further updates.”
