Stephen Root Confirms Involvement in GTA 6
- Stephen Root confirmed his role in Grand Theft Auto VI during an interview with AP News.
- The game is set for release on November 19, 2023, with no generative AI or microtransactions included.
- Root’s character is speculated to be Brian Heder, a drug runner featured in the game.
Rockstar Games has remained tight-lipped about the full voice cast for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, but one notable actor, Stephen Root, has been confirmed for the project. Rumors regarding the cast have circulated online since the game’s initial trailer was released.
In an interview with AP News, Root acknowledged fan speculation, stating, “Yeah, you’re gonna see me in that.”
Root, recognized for his performances in the Oscar-winning horror film Get Out and the Emmy-winning HBO series Barry, has a robust voice acting portfolio. His credits include roles in King of the Hill and Rick and Morty, as well as voicing a character in the video game adaptation of Finding Nemo.
“It’s coming out November 19th, is the latest I know of,” Root remarked. He noted that during the rollout of GTA around a year ago, his character was revealed, suggesting that many recognized his voice from King of the Hill.
While Root did not disclose the character he is portraying, fans theorize he may be voicing Brian Heder, described on Rockstar’s website as “a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling” who continues to operate through a boat yard with his wife, Lori. The extended look at GTA 6 features scenes of Brian and Lori socializing with other characters.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Root added, “I am so happy to be involved with it. It’s an amazing thing to look at.”
As the release date approaches, further information regarding Root’s character is expected. Currently, Rockstar has confirmed there will be no generative AI or microtransactions in GTA 6, which is designed to operate at 30 FPS, with the inclusion of a 60 FPS option still uncertain.
