Control Resonant Becomes Remedy Entertainment’s Fastest-Selling Game
- Control Resonant has sold over 1 million copies within three weeks of release.
- The game is the fastest-selling title in Remedy Entertainment’s 31-year history.
- Remedy plans to continue developing its established franchises, including Control and Alan Wake.
Remedy Entertainment has announced that its latest game, Control Resonant, has surpassed 1 million copies sold within three weeks of its release, making it the fastest-selling title in the company’s 31-year history. This news was disclosed by the developer yesterday.
While Remedy did not specify the digital versus physical sales breakdown or which platform led the sales, the numbers are considered impressive for a Remedy title, especially given the competitive September release schedule that Resonant entered.
Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who became Remedy’s CEO in February, described the game’s performance as a “very strong start.” He emphasized that “Control Resonant is Remedy’s first self-published release of this scale, launched into one of the most competitive windows in years alongside the industry’s biggest names.”
Gaudechon expressed optimism about the game’s potential, stating, “We have always believed Control deserved an even bigger audience, and this launch shows what’s possible: we see the game connecting with long-time fans while bringing a significant number of new players into the world of Control, which strengthens its long-term potential.”
His remarks are significant as Gaudechon, previously at the helm of a sports betting platform, recently addressed concerns among fans about his leadership direction for the studio. He reiterated that Remedy would focus on its two established franchises, Control and Alan Wake, saying, “Our focus is to build on what makes them special, support them, and grow them even further. There is a lot more to come from these worlds.”
While we do not have direct sales comparisons for the original Control, it sold 2 million copies within 15 months post-launch, by the end of 2020. Alan Wake 2, which was previously the fastest-selling title for Remedy, reached the 1 million milestone in approximately two months in 2023. Notably, Control Resonant has the lowest ratings among these three titles, with Alexis Ong from Eurogamer giving it three stars, critiquing its attempts to blend live-service game elements with its narrative style.
Control Resonant joins other recent titles such as The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Star Wars Zero Company, and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, all of which have also sold over 1 million copies.
