- 007 First Light launches on Switch 2 on March 18, 2027, following a delay.
- The game showcased at gamescom and Tokyo Game Show received positive player feedback.
- Pre-orders for a Deluxe Edition are now live, offering additional in-game content.
IO Interactive has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light will release on March 18, 2027. This release date comes after an unspecified delay from an earlier expected summer launch announced about a month prior.
According to IO Interactive, “Since announcing additional development time to ensure the quality of experience players expect, IO Interactive has brought hands-on builds of 007 First Light to both gamescom and Tokyo Game Show, where players and press had their first opportunity to experience Bond’s world running on Nintendo’s hardware.”
The player response at both events has been reported as positive, indicating progress as development advances. The team is committed to further refining the game’s optimization and performance on the new console prior to its launch.
The announcement of the release date coincides with the launch of pre-orders for a Deluxe Edition, which includes access to extra clothing and gadgets. Recently, 007 First Light also received a substantial update featuring New Game Plus, a new, harder difficulty setting, a photo mode, additional replayable TacSim challenge missions, and various game enhancements. These features are expected to be included in the Switch 2 version upon its release.
Having been a notable success in 2026, 007 First Light has reintroduced James Bond to video gaming with an engaging and cinematic single-player adventure. The game has sold over 4 million copies since its launch, indicating strong commercial performance, which may increase the likelihood of a sequel, especially considering Amazon’s interest in the Bond franchise.
In addition to 007 First Light, IO Interactive is developing Project Fantasy, an online RPG first announced in 2023. The project faced significant challenges when publisher Xbox withdrew, leading to studio closures and layoffs at IO Interactive. However, the studio has regained full control over Project Fantasy and intends to continue its development independently.
Furthermore, IO Interactive is actively expanding the Hitman franchise, recently introducing rapper Snoop Dogg as an elusive target in Hitman World of Assassination.
