Leaked Details Emerge About Cancelled Mass Effect Game “Mass Effect Universe”
- YouTuber Dantics claims to have insider knowledge about the cancelled Mass Effect game, set over 600 years post-Reaper War.
- The game involved a “galactic Cold War” and emphasized player choice in mission execution.
- BioWare has not confirmed these details, and the source remains unverified.
A content creator, Dantics, who claims affiliation with a BioWare community council, has shared purported details regarding the cancelled title “Mass Effect Universe.” In a detailed Twitter/X post, he stated that the game was positioned over 600 years after the Reaper War.
Dantics asserted that his council role granted him direct access to BioWare’s development process, allowing him to provide feedback on the game’s progress. He described the game’s central conflict as a “galactic Cold War” involving major factions, including alliances among Humanity, the Krogan, and the Batarians, while the Geth emerged as a new superpower. Notably, unlike previous installations, the focus would not be on another Reaper-style threat.
Key features would have included Geth-built megastructures, connections to the Andromeda Galaxy, and a mysterious adversary, all with players controlling a customizable N7 agent characterized as “a cross between John Wick and James Bond.”
I can finally talk about Mass Effect Universe. Since Bioware closed I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development. • Set 600+ years after the Reaper War

Additionally, the protagonist would have utilized experimental technology for environmental manipulation, including the ability to see through walls and trigger hazards remotely. Mission structures were designed to be handcrafted, akin to the original trilogy, yet allow for “Hitman-style freedom” in completion. Features such as brutal close-range executions, interpersonal squadmate conflicts, and unrestricted romances were also mentioned, with a commitment to preserving Commander Shepard’s legacy despite player choices.
Liara, a returning squad member, would have been depicted as a powerful Asari Matriarch. Dantics remarked, “From what I saw, BioWare was making Mass Effect for us, the fans, not for people who don’t exist,” expressing disappointment over the game’s cancellation. He emphasized that it looked impressive, but lamented that players might never experience it.
No official confirmations have been made regarding these details by BioWare or EA. Furthermore, Dantics’s connection to the council remains unverified. The cancellation of “Mass Effect Universe” follows the release of an internal trailer substantiated after BioWare’s closure.
EA’s job cuts, coinciding with Saudi Arabia’s $55 billion leveraged buyout of the company, affected multiple studios, including BioWare. While anticipated given the company’s debt obligations, the closure of BioWare elicited sympathy and backlash from the gaming community.
This week, the industry bid farewell to BioWare amid the ongoing developments.
