Upcoming Mod Promises Seamless Landings in Starfield
- Frederik Wessberg is developing a mod for seamless planetary landings in Starfield.
- The mod allows manual atmospheric entry, low orbit flying, and autopilot features.
- Currently in development for PC, no release date has been set yet.
Starfield players have expressed frustration over the necessity of loading screens when landing on planets, contrasting this feature with the seamless travel available in No Man’s Sky. Over three years after the game’s initial release, a new mod under development by Frederik Wessberg aims to address this issue by enabling seamless planetary landings.
Though not yet released, Wessberg has demonstrated the mod’s progress in a new video. The mod draws inspiration from popular Starfield mods, including Seamless Grav Jumps and Seamless Planet Takeoff, which have also sought to resolve other gameplay concerns.
Wessberg noted, “After seeing the Seamless Grav Jumps and Seamless Planet Takeoffs mods, and especially after we got cruise mode officially in the game, not being able to also land on planets without loading screens really stood out to me.”
The anticipated mod will allow players to manually enter a planet’s atmosphere and navigate in low orbit before landing. It also features an autopilot option, enabling players to leave their cockpit and explore their ship or enjoy the scenery while transitioning from orbit to the surface.
In addition to improved landing mechanics, the mod promises increased control over landing locations, including the ability to touch down on water. Wessberg stated that these atmospheric enhancements are “real 3D layers of volumetric clouds, driven by climate data and weather systems” derived from the game’s data.
Currently, the mod is only being developed for PC, and no official release date has been disclosed. Once it is finalized, players will be able to download it for free from Nexus Mods.
As for the game’s developer, Bethesda, they have indicated long-term plans for Starfield, although specifics remain unclear. A port for the PlayStation 5 was highlighted prior to the game’s release, and speculation around a potential Switch 2 port is growing.
