Nintendo Switch 2 Update Introduces VRR Support and New Features
- Nintendo Switch 2 update 23.0.0 adds Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support.
- Complete Data Transfer feature now available between two Switch 2 consoles.
- Background music can be played on the Mii editing screen with a new button functionality.
A new software update for the Nintendo Switch 2, designated version 23.0.0, has been released, introducing support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) while the console is docked. According to Nintendo, VRR functionality will work as long as both your TV and the game software support it. Users will need to update the firmware of their Switch 2 dock and toggle the setting on in the Display section of the console’s settings menu.
VRR technology synchronizes the refresh rates of the game and the display, reducing issues such as screen tearing and stuttering that can occur when these rates are not aligned. This update is anticipated to enhance gaming visuals for users who enable the feature.
Additionally, the update introduces a “Complete Data Transfer” option, allowing users to transfer their saved data between two Switch 2 consoles. This is particularly beneficial for players looking to upgrade to a new device or preserving save files after damaging their original console.
Switch 2 owners can also enjoy new music playback capabilities on the Mii editing screen, where background music can be easily controlled with a single button located in the upper left corner of the screen.
In related news, Nintendo held two Direct streams earlier this week. The first highlighted gameplay from the anticipated Ocarina of Time remake, focusing on The Legend of Zelda. The second, which occurred the following day, showcased an array of trailers, including the reveal for Metroid Ravenous.
