Phantom Blade Zero Officially Released, Garnering Over 431,000 Concurrent Players on Steam
- Phantom Blade Zero peaked at 431,541 concurrent players on Steam shortly after launch.
- The game is currently second on Steam’s most-played list and leads in global sales.
- Analyst Rhys Elliott estimates over 1 million copies sold across all platforms.
Phantom Blade Zero has officially launched and quickly gained popularity within the gaming community. The wuxia action game developed by S-Game saw a remarkable peak of 431,541 concurrent players on Steam, as reported by SteamDB.
As of now, Phantom Blade Zero ranks as Steam’s second most-played game, just behind Counter-Strike 2. Additionally, it has risen 16 positions this week to lead Steam’s global top sellers chart. Early user reviews on Steam reflect a Mostly Positive reception among players.
While S-Game has not disclosed official sales figures, estimates suggest that the game sold over 1 million copies prior to its launch. According to analyst Rhys Elliott from Alinea Analytics, Phantom Blade Zero has sold 850,000 copies on PC and PlayStation 5. It is also available on Tencent WeGame in China, where Elliott projects that sales have exceeded 1 million copies altogether.
Prior to its release, Elliott estimated that Phantom Blade Zero sold about 500,000 copies on Steam, with an additional 80,000 copies sold after review publications two days before the game’s official launch on October 28. Compare this performance to that of Black Myth: Wukong, another action title developed in China, which peaked at 2,415,714 concurrent players on Steam and has reportedly sold over 30 million copies over its lifetime.
In a statement on X, Elliott expressed skepticism about Phantom Blade Zero reaching similar levels of success but maintains that strong sales are anticipated for this year, a sentiment corroborated by current data.
With the advantage of pre-launch excitement, word-of-mouth could further elevate player counts. It is plausible that peak concurrent players could surpass 500,000 by the weekend.
In her review for Eurogamer, Emma Kent highlighted a few shortcomings in Phantom Blade Zero, specifically mentioning a lack of polish and boss fights that disrupt pacing, which detracted from her enjoyment of the game’s standout features: swordplay and combat.
