Phasmophobia Surpasses 30 Million Sales, Halloween Event Crimson Eye Returns
- Phasmophobia has sold over 30 million copies since its Early Access launch in 2020.
- The Crimson Eye Halloween event is live until November 1, featuring ghost challenges and rewards.
- Kinetic Games will reveal updates leading to the 1.0 release, now scheduled for the second half of 2027.
Phasmophobia has achieved a significant milestone by selling over 30 million copies across PC and console platforms since its Early Access launch in 2020. Developer Kinetic Games announced this achievement while also confirming the return of Crimson Eye, the game’s annual Halloween event, which runs until November 1.
The Crimson Eye event introduces blood moon weather effects that enhance ghost speed and quickly drain player sanity, but offer greater rewards in return. Participating maps include Tanglewood Drive, Camp Woodwind, Grafton Farmhouse, Bleasdale Farmhouse, Point Hope (standard only), Edgefield Road, Nell’s Diner, and Willow Street.
Players can unlock community goals such as the Beholder ID Card, Badge, and Blood Moon Trophy. Personal goals provide the Blood Moon Charm, a seasonal t-shirt, and upgrades to the Crimson Eye trophy. Additionally, players who watch two hours of Phasmophobia streams on Twitch between October 8 and 15 will receive a Crimson Eye t-shirt cosmetic, while double XP and rewards will be available from October 15 to 22.
The Ghost Hunts 4 Hearts initiative will return for the final week of the Crimson Eye event, from October 26 to November 1, benefiting the American Heart Association. Last year, the Phasmophobia community raised over $100,000 for this cause.
“So much has changed since I started making Phasmophobia on my own at my parents’ house,” said Kinetic Games CEO and game director Daniel Knight. He expressed his gratitude to the players and the development team, stating, “My initial goal was to sell 1000 units in the first year, so it’s hard to believe we’re celebrating 30 million. There is plenty more to come as we head towards 1.0.”
The completion of Phasmophobia’s 1.0 version has been rescheduled for the second half of 2027. Kinetic Games plans to provide sneak peeks of future developments next year, focusing on major updates to ghost design and gameplay. Furthermore, the studio has launched a new publishing branch, Kinetic Publishing, with its first title, the starship job simulator Contact Protocol, set for release in Spring 2027.
Phasmophobia is currently available in Early Access on Steam, PS5, PS VR2, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is also slated to be released on Nintendo Switch 2, although the date remains undetermined.
Earlier this year, Kinetic Games announced that the 1.0 launch had been postponed to 2027, prioritizing quality following a mixed reception to its Player Character Update. The studio publicly apologized to its player base for the shortcomings of the ‘Player Character Update’, acknowledging that it “missed the mark” and “didn’t deliver on our promises to you.”
In response to player feedback, Kinetic Games has implemented numerous patches and hotfixes to improve gameplay. The latest Quality of Life update introduced additional Restricted maps, streamlined evidence collection, VR enhancements, and new gameplay mechanics. The team remarked, “We’ve read feedback from across the entire community. The frustration and disappointment has been clear.”
