Star Wars Zero Company Surpasses 1 Million Sales Amid Development Challenges
- Star Wars Zero Company has sold over 1 million copies since its August 27 launch, according to Alinea Analytics.
- Most of Bit Reactor’s development team was furloughed prior to release, raising questions about future compensation.
- The game has generated approximately $50 million in revenue, with 69.9% of sales on Steam.
Star Wars Zero Company, a turn-based tactics game from Bit Reactor inspired by XCOM, has achieved notable success by selling over 1 million copies, as reported by Alinea Analytics.
This sales milestone is particularly significant given that “most” of Bit Reactor’s development team was furloughed without pay prior to the game’s release, following disputes among the studio’s owners and financial issues. This situation raises questions about whether the team will be reinstated and compensated from the game’s revenue.
Steam is the leading platform for the game, capturing 69.9% of sales, while PlayStation accounts for 19.9% and Xbox for 10.2%, which includes copies sold on PC through Xbox.
Alinea’s analyst Rhys Elliott estimated that Star Wars Zero Company has generated around $50 million (approximately £37 million) since its launch on August 27. He described this figure as “respectable for this genre and during such a crowded period (even with the Star Wars brand attached).” Notably, while fewer copies were sold on consoles, they yielded higher revenue per sale, as Elliott emphasized that “console players pay more per copy.”
The audience for Star Wars Zero Company is predominantly located in North America and Europe, making up 90% of sales, with only 5% in Asia. This distribution likely reflects the global popularity of the Star Wars franchise. The game’s success places it among the top five earning games of 2026 linked to a significant intellectual property (IP), with the highest earner being the James Bond game 007 First Light at $309.8 million (approximately £233 million). Alongside Zero Company, titles such as Blood of Dawnwalker and Onimusha: Way of the Sword have also surpassed the million sales threshold.
While a review of Star Wars Zero Company is in the works, Christian Donlan expressed enthusiasm for the game after his initial hours with it, stating: “Star Wars Zero Company understands that Star Wars games should feel less like the movies and more like the toys.”
