What Is Wonders of O? The Shocking Sequel to Lies of P That Has Everyone Buzzing!

Date:

New Trademark Hints at Sequel to Lies of P

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Neowiz has registered trademarks for a new project titled ‘Wonders of O’.
  • The game may be a sequel to 2023’s successful Lies of P, inspired by the tale of Geppetto and Pinocchio.
  • Round8 Studio aims to enhance narrative depth in this sequel, which has already been confirmed to be in development.

Following the successful launch of Lies of P in 2023, a new project titled ‘Wonders of O’ has emerged through trademark applications at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). These registrations were filed by publisher Neowiz and suggest that players might soon see a sequel to the original game, which offered a Soulslike take on the traditional story of Geppetto and Pinocchio.

The trademark details include various tags related to video game software and interactive multimedia, indicating that this is indeed a video game project. Neowiz’s ownership of the application supports the idea that this could be a direct sequel.

The name ‘Wonders of O’ raises questions about its significance. Notably, it appears to follow a naming pattern established by the original game. The ‘O’ might allude to the Oz series, particularly L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), which consists of 14 books providing a rich source of inspiration for potential storylines. It’s uncertain whether this sequel will maintain a connection to Lies of P or feature standalone content, but hints in the first game’s post-credits scene featuring Dorothy suggest possible narrative links.

This isn’t the first indication of a sequel; shortly after the release of the initial title, developers confirmed plans for a follow-up. In August, a Lies of P documentary suggested that the upcoming game would aim to provide a more engaging and emotionally resonant experience, contrasting with the relatively straightforward narrative of its predecessor. The documentary highlighted the philosophy of one of Round8’s teams, known as Nough, which focuses on testing and refining its projects prior to release, emphasizing a gamer-driven approach to development.

Director Choi Jiwon assured viewers, “We’re giving it everything we have to make it the best it can be. So please, just wait a little longer. You won’t be disappointed, we promise. This is the truth, not a lie,” a fitting remark considering the themes within the game.

Eurogamer’s review of Lies of P gave it three stars, noting its “strong enough foundations in its edgy tone and tweaked weapons,” while also mentioning the challenge of surpassing its predecessor.

Fans are left anticipating further details, with speculations about a possible reveal at the upcoming Game Awards.
