Xbox Introduces Mythic Achievement Amid Restructuring Efforts
- Microsoft updates the Xbox PC App to include a new Mythic Achievement.
- The achievement features a unique symbol design and is retroactive but worth zero Gamerscore.
- Major restructuring within Xbox leads to the closure of Halo Studios and job losses totaling 268 across the division.
Microsoft is reportedly introducing a new Xbox Mythic Achievement for its Xbox PC App, seemingly creating a Platinum Trophy equivalent for Xbox players. This addition features an intricate symbol design adorned with stars and laurel leaves, accompanied by a distinctive 15-second unlock sound.
The update was highlighted by Xbox enthusiast Klobrille on social media, while TrueAchievements reported that Mythic Achievements would have no Gamerscore value and will be retroactive. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the functionality of this achievement, specifically whether it mirrors the PlayStation Platinum Trophy, which players earn upon achieving all other achievements in a game. Requests for clarification have been made to Microsoft.
Xboss Asha Sharma previously hinted at the possibility of a Platinum Trophy equivalent during a Twitter response, stating that the team is “working on something for later this year!” This comment aligns with an ongoing initiative to revamp achievements across the Xbox platform.
The term “Mythic” is a nod to Halo’s highest difficulty level, but it also reflects a naming convention employed by Blizzard—an Xbox-owned company—indicating “the ultimate challenge or reward.”
In related developments, Microsoft has announced significant changes to the Halo franchise, revealing plans to dissolve Halo Studios. Moving forward, Halo game development will transition to Activision, following Microsoft’s acquisition of the publisher for $68.7 billion in 2023. Activision is reportedly assembling a dedicated team for the next installment of the Halo series.
This restructuring has raised concerns within the Halo community regarding the future of the franchise. With the closure of Halo Studios and the associated job losses, there is growing anxiety about the significant experience and knowledge that the series has lost.
The restructuring impact extends beyond Halo Studios, contributing to a total job loss of 268 positions across Xbox. Additional casualties of this strategic shift include the near-closure of Ninja Theory, the developer of Hellblade; a reported reduction of half the team at Age of Empires developer World’s Edge transitioning to Activision; RPG developer Obsidian being placed under Bethesda’s portfolio; the merger of Playground and Turn 10, known for Forza and Fable; and Rare’s transition under Activision. The affected employees are in the thoughts of many during this challenging time.
