Zavvi Enters Administration Amid Ceased Trading Announcements
- Zavvi has entered administration and ceased trading as it navigates insolvency.
- Customers are unable to fulfill orders or return items as of this announcement.
- The company was acquired in 2009 following a previous administration and has a long history in entertainment retail.
Former game-seller Zavvi has announced its entry into administration, leading to a cessation of trading while the insolvency process is underway. The company revealed this decision in a statement on its website, where it identified BDO LLP as the firm managing the administration.
The announcement emphasized that Zavvi can no longer fulfill outstanding orders or pre-orders and added, “Please also note that we are unable to accept any returns for items of any kind.” It acknowledged customer concerns regarding unpaid goods and suggested that affected customers reach out to their banks or payment providers to potentially recover payments.
Zavvi’s intent to appoint administrators was hinted at in previous reports, aiming to “protect the business and its stakeholders and securing the best possible outcome.” The implications of this move, whether it serves as an earnest effort to revive the company or merely a way for investors to recover funds, remain unclear.
Founded in 2007 following the split from Virgin Megastores, Zavvi quickly became one of the largest independent entertainment retailers in the UK. However, it faced challenges that led to its first administration just a year later. In 2009, the Hut Group acquired Zavvi, which then shifted its focus towards pop culture and entertainment sales.
