Meta Launches Glimmer, an Open-Weight AI Model for All Users

This week, Meta introduced Glimmer, an open-weight AI model that can be downloaded and operated on personal hardware. This release marks a significant departure from the company’s more advanced Muse Spark model, which remains restricted behind APIs.

Accompanying the launch was a letter from CEO Mark Zuckerberg, emphasizing his belief that AI should be accessible to all, rather than dominated by a select few research laboratories. However, hosts of TechCrunch’s Equity podcast highlighted that this vision may carry certain limitations.
