Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Cincinnati Open Due to Injury

Carlos Alcaraz has officially withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open, the Masters 1000-level tournament where he was the defending champion, due to a persistent right wrist injury. Tournament director Bob Moran stated, “We know Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to playing tournaments as soon as possible. We wish him the best with his recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in the future.”

Alcaraz last competed at the Barcelona Open in April and has since missed both the French Open and the entire grass-court season, including Wimbledon. Though recent practice footage showed Alcaraz appearing to play near full strength, it raised speculation about his potential return for the Cincinnati event scheduled to start on August 11.

The main draw of the US Open, where Alcaraz is also the defending champion, begins August 30. Currently, he holds the No. 2 ranking in the world, trailing Jannik Sinner, and is listed as an entrant for the tournament, though he has not confirmed his participation.
