Cristiano Ronaldo Drops a Bombshell: Is This Really His Final Season?

Date:

Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Possible Retirement After Current Season

Cristiano Ronaldo has signaled that he may retire from professional football at the end of the current season, stating in a recent interview, “This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.” The 41-year-old forward, whose contract with Al Nassr extends until June 2027, previously acknowledged that retirement is approaching but had refrained from specifying a timeline.

In an interview with Vogue published on Sunday, Ronaldo expressed that he has begun planning for life after football, emphasizing the importance of staying busy. “I have my future all mapped out,” he remarked. “I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard.” He plans to fill his time with various activities, including traveling, playing padel, and enjoying time with his family after a remarkable 25-year career.

Previously, Ronaldo had indicated that he expected to continue playing for “one or two years” and confirmed that the 2026 World Cup would be his final appearance at the tournament level. Portugal was eliminated by Spain in the recent World Cup, although he did not specify an exact retirement date following the tournament.

Ronaldo’s announcement comes just days before his marriage to long-term partner Georgina Rodríguez, which took place in Cascais, Portugal. His career, which includes playing for clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, has seen him become one of football’s most decorated players. Notably, he holds a club-record 450 goals in 438 appearances for Real Madrid.

This development also mirrors sentiments expressed by Ronaldo’s longtime rival, Lionel Messi, who recently voiced uncertainty about his own future in football following the death of his father, Jorge. Ronaldo scored three goals during the recent World Cup as Portugal advanced to the round of 16.
