Kyle Abbott marked his recent fatherhood with an impressive bowling performance, taking 4 for 17 in 18 overs as Hampshire faced Yorkshire in a crucial Rothesay County Championship match at Utilita Bowl. Abbott, who welcomed his second son last week, spearheaded Hampshire’s attack, helping to dismiss Yorkshire for 173 runs. Andrew Neal contributed with three wickets, while Eddie Jack chipped in with two as Yorkshire struggled against Hampshire’s bowlers.

The day ended on a challenging note for Hampshire, as they found themselves at 60 for 4, trailing Yorkshire by 113 runs. George Hill showcased his own bowling skills, taking 3 for 4 in eight overs, continuing the pressure on Hampshire, who are currently 17 points adrift of Yorkshire in the relegation zone of Division One.

Yorkshire opted to bat on a used pitch, seemingly in consideration of potential spin later in the match.
