Yorkshire Secures Seven-Wicket Victory Over Essex in Chelmsford

Yorkshire achieved a solid seven-wicket win against Essex on a challenging pitch in Chelmsford, securing second place in Group B and setting up a home quarter-final at York this Friday. The victory marks Yorkshire’s sixth win in eight matches.

Captain Dom Bess and Ben Coad were instrumental with the ball, taking 3 for 32 and 3 for 22, respectively, as they bowled out the already-eliminated Essex for 151 runs in just 41 overs. Wicketkeeper Fin Bean excelled behind the stumps, claiming three catches and two stumpings, while Matt Critchley top-scored for Essex with an unbeaten 45.

Yorkshire’s chase began shakily, with the team at 15 for 2. However, Will Bennison anchored the innings with a remarkable 60 runs off 59 balls, marking his second fifty in the first team. He and James Wharton built a crucial partnership of 85 runs for the third wicket, stabilizing the innings. Wharton finished the match not out on 51, hitting the winning boundary against Simon Harmer.

Essex struggled early in their batting, collapsing to 99 for 5 by the 26th over. After a miscue from opener Noah Thain, Bess quickly made his mark, taking two wickets with the first ball of both his opening overs. Jafer Chohan also contributed by dismissing Grant Roloefsen, while Adam Lyth’s off-spin led to Simon Harmer’s stumping.

Three wickets in quick succession from Coad effectively ended any hopes of an Essex recovery, reducing them to 129 for 9. Bean’s performance behind the stumps was noteworthy, as he became only the fifth player in Yorkshire’s history to achieve five dismissals in a List A match.

Despite a difficult start to their innings, Yorkshire continued to press forward, eventually winning with more than 18 overs in hand. They will now await their quarter-final opponents following this emphatic victory.
