India Overwhelms Pakistan 7-1 in FIH Pro League Match
The Indian men’s hockey team delivered an impressive performance, defeating Pakistan 7-1 in their FIH Pro League match at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London on Friday. The team showcased remarkable attacking prowess, with seven different players scoring goals in the second half after initially falling behind.
Pakistan took the early lead with a penalty corner goal from Abu Mahmood in the 13th minute, executing a strong dragflick that surpassed Indian goalkeeper Mohith HS. However, India equalized in the 20th minute when Harmanpreet Singh’s dragflick deflected off Sukhjeet Singh into the net.
The match became tense in the second quarter, notably after Pakistan’s Ahmad Nadeem suffered a serious eye injury, requiring him to be taken off the field on a wheelchair and later hospitalized. Following a significant stoppage in play, India capitalized on the momentum, with Harmanpreet scoring a powerful penalty corner in the 25th minute, placing the ball in the top right corner.
After the halftime break, India intensified their assault. In the 34th minute, Hardik Singh converted a stroke after Mandeep Singh’s shot struck a Pakistan defender’s body on the line. Just a minute later, Jugraj Singh added another field goal, finishing a swift counter-attack. Abhishek followed up with a fierce reverse hit for India’s fifth goal in the 41st minute, and Raj Kumar Pal contributed the sixth just three minutes later.
The final quarter remained dynamic, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Dilpreet Singh sealed the victory for India in the 54th minute, scoring from close range. This convincing win elevates India to seventh place in the league standings, amassing 17 points from 15 matches. They have one match remaining against England on Sunday.
In contrast, Pakistan remains without a win in their 15 matches, marking the third time this season they have conceded seven goals in a game.
