India’s Stumble: How a Shocking 0-2 Loss to Spain Has Them Spiraling in the FIH Pro League!

India Suffers Fifth Consecutive Loss in FIH Pro League, Falling 2-0 to Spain

In a disappointing performance, India recorded its fifth straight loss in the FIH Pro League, bowing 2-0 to Spain on Saturday in Hobart. This match did little to alleviate the concerns of head coach Craig Fulton, following a streak of four earlier defeats against Argentina and Belgium in Rourkela.

The match began poorly for India, conceding just six minutes in. A long ball into the circle went uncontested, leading to a deflection that fell to Spain’s Ignacio Abajo, who scored past Indian goalkeeper Suraj Karkera.

India struggled to find momentum, with several basic skill issues hampering their ability to create scoring opportunities. Notable players Amit Rohidas and Jugraj Singh were unable to maintain possession, further complicating India’s attempts to build play from the back.

Despite some impressive saves from both Karkera and fellow goalkeeper Mohit HS in a largely challenging match, the Indian defense faltered again at the beginning of the second half, allowing Ignacio Cobos to extend Spain’s lead.

Statistical disparities highlighted the struggle: India managed only one penalty corner compared to Spain’s seven, and recorded just nine circle penetrations against Spain’s 23. This match marked Spain’s first victory of the Pro League season while India found itself reflecting on yet another defeat.
