Manchester United Pursues Carlos Baleba in Talks with Brighton
Manchester United has initiated discussions with Brighton regarding a potential transfer for midfielder Carlos Baleba, sources have confirmed. This comes after last summer’s inquiry, where Brighton set a £100 million ($136 million) price tag on the Cameroon international, ultimately leading to no agreement.
Sources indicate that United suspects Brighton may now be open to accepting a lower offer for the 22-year-old player, prompting renewed interest in securing his services. Brighton is reportedly willing to allow Baleba to leave should their valuation be satisfied, despite the midfielder currently dealing with an ankle injury sustained during preseason.
In the current transfer window, Manchester United has already invested £85 million in two signings, bringing in Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. Baleba has made 92 appearances in the Premier League over three seasons for Brighton after joining from Lille in 2023.
In addition to seeking a third midfielder, United is also exploring options for a new left-back to challenge Luke Shaw for a starting position. Michael Carrick’s squad is set to kick off their Premier League campaign with a match against newly-promoted Hull City on Saturday.
