Christian Pulisic Returns to Training with AC Milan Following Injury
Christian Pulisic resumed training with AC Milan on Tuesday, marking his first return to the pitch since sustaining an injury that led to the United States men’s national team’s exit from the World Cup in the round of 16. Pulisic suffered a bone bruise and a microfracture in his lower leg during the match against Belgium on July 6, when he struck the back of midfielder Youri Tielemans’ leg while attempting a shot.
After missing all of Milan’s preseason, the 27-year-old forward participated in part of Tuesday’s training session under new head coach Ruben Amorim. ESPN previously reported that Pulisic was expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks following his injury.
AC Milan is set to kick off their Serie A season against Torino on Sunday. However, reports from Italy indicate that it is unlikely Pulisic will take part in this match. There is a possibility he could be ready for the team’s home opener against Venezia on August 28.
Reflecting on his ordeal, Pulisic expressed disappointment at himself for sustaining multiple injuries during the tournament, which included a calf injury prior to the U.S. opener against Paraguay. He had to be substituted at halftime against Paraguay after aggravating this injury, missed the match against Australia, and played only 32 minutes against Türkiye before returning to the starting lineup for an 88-minute performance in the 2-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina in the round of 32.
